ViewLux has produced several sliding door lines over the years, and the part you need depends on the series. The two most common in Miami homes are the VL-Series (framed aluminum) and the VLX-Series (multi-track with an internal screen). If you have a pocket door or a three-panel configuration, you’re almost certainly in the VLX line.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha many Miami owners run into: ViewLux changed roller design specifications around 2017. Doors manufactured before that year used a 1-1/4 inch concave roller with a steel bracket. Newer units use a 1-1/2 inch flat-surface roller with a stainless bracket. They don’t interchange. If you order the wrong one, the door sits a quarter-inch low or binds at the top track, and no amount of track cleaning fixes it. We match the roller to the panel weight and the track profile, not just the brand name, because a door that weighs 200 pounds in a bungalow in Shenandoah and a door that weighs 300 pounds in a condo tower in Brickell need different load ratings.

When you call us, have the door open and look at the top edge of the panel or the corner of the glass. There’s usually an etched or stickered series code. If it’s gone, we measure the track width and roller housing during the free estimate. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for ViewLux specifically, we’ve had better long-term results with certain aftermarket stainless rollers than with the original equipment units, especially in salt-air zones like Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove. The OEM parts corrode faster. We’ll quote both options on paper so you can see the difference in cost and expected life.

Signs Your ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

• Door drags or takes real shoulder to move. Flat spots on the rollers. In Miami, sand and salt grit off the coast works its way into the track, grinds the roller surface smooth, and the door starts riding on the bearing races instead of the wheels. It only gets worse.
• Handle moves but the latch won’t catch. The internal mortise mechanism or the keeper on the jamb has worn down. ViewLux latches are typically die-cast zinc; after a decade of daily use and humidity, the internal springs lose tension and the hook won’t throw fully.
• Door locks, but there’s daylight or a draft at the meeting stile. The interlock weatherstrip has compressed or torn. In summer, this is the one that lets the AC escape and the humidity creep in. You’ll feel the difference at the center seam before you see it.
• Panel swings or wobbles when you lift it slightly. The roller carriage has come loose from the adjustment screw, or the bottom rail is starting to separate from the stile. If it wobbles, don’t wait. A panel that drops off its track in a Miami house with kids or grandchildren around is a serious hazard.
• Track looks grooved or the door makes a grinding sound like sand in a bearing. The track under a ViewLux door is aluminum in most installations. Ten years of sliding with worn rollers cuts grooves into it. We can resurface or replace the track in many cases without pulling the frame.

Past that, we’d tell you not to try it. A filled glass panel in a ViewLux sliding door weighs between 150 and 300 pounds.
